Sumi-e is the art of saying more with less. In this relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop, you will explore the foundations of traditional Japanese ink painting and discover how expressive black ink can be when guided by movement and intention rather than perfection.

Working step by step, you will learn brush handling, ink tones and classic painting techniques while creating your own elegant nature-inspired artworks.

• How to hold and control a traditional brush
• How to create different ink tones using ink and water
• How pressure, speed and direction change each brushstroke
• How to combine simple strokes into finished paintings
• Complete 2 paintings - bamboo and orchid on traditional rice paper
